Let’s Innovate Through Education (LITE) today announced it has received a $5,000 grant as one of the top 10 finalists for the Small Business, Big Impact Award.

The grant, which was presented by AWeber, one of the world’s leading email marketing and automation platforms, will help LITE make an even greater impact in the lives of the people they serve.

LITE plans to use the grant to provide entrepreneurial programming to several hundred students and fund 7 student-based ventures in 2019.

LITE’s impact is evident at Pitch Night, the culmination of the 16-week high school entrepreneurship program. Pitch Night will be on May 2, 2019 for this spring cohort to present their ventures to the community. Audience members vote to select which high school student ventures receive thousands in additional funding.

“We’re incredibly grateful to AWeber for so generously supporting our organization, our community and our students. We’re lucky to have unbelievable young people in our program who demonstrate relentless work ethic and creativity and prove to so many what’s possible.” - Sam Hasty, Director of Finance for LITE.

Additionally, as one of the top 10 finalists, LITE also received free AWeber email marketing service for life, to help them improve their marketing efforts, reach more people, and build stronger relationships with their community.

LITE Memphis introduces African-American and Latinx students across the city to entrepreneurship through a targeted 8-year pipeline of support. The Finalist Program equips high school students with critical 21st-century skills like design thinking, financial literacy, and technological literacy. In college, LITE matches Innovation Fellows (alumni of the incubator) with paid internships and prototyping programming to help students further scale their ventures. After college, LITE matches alumni with mentoring, coaching, and capital networks to help scale ventures and create jobs in their communities long-term.

“AWeber created this award as a way to celebrate 20 years of supporting small businesses and nonprofits through our email marketing and automation platform, as well as to recognize the tremendous contribution they make in their communities,” said Brandon Olson, marketing communications manager at AWeber. “We’re thrilled to recognize LITE for the incredible work they are doing to help African-American and Latinx students create brighter futures for themselves through entrepreneurship and learning.”
